CAIS is offering two five-week courses in Persian over the Summer break.

The Elementary Persian I course aims at developing students’ abilities to read and write Modern Standard Persian and acquire basic oral skills to interact in limited aspects of everyday life situations. Emphasis is on mastering the Persian alphabet, its sound system and its pronunciation. This course assumes no previous knowledge of the language. It covers the Persian script and basic grammar rules. It is designed to develop the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing through the use of oral and written drills, supported by the audio-visual material. On completion of the course students will have acquired: the ability to read and understand a range of simple Persian sentences within a vocabulary range of 100-150 of the most commonly used words; the ability to speak at a basic level in Persian and elementary knowledge of some Persian cultural practices and traditions

Elementary Persian I
Monday and Wednesday
5:00 – 7:30 pm
5 weeks with a short break,  (29 October to 14 November then 26 November - 5 December)

No assumed knowledge.

Elementary Persian II aims at improving the students’ ability to read, write and speak Modern Standard Persian. They will also have the opportunity to acquire post-elementary conversation skills to interact in routine aspects of everyday life situations. Emphasis is on mastering fluency in using Persian to satisfy basic everyday life linguistic needs. This course assumes introductory knowledge of the alphabet and the basic grammar. It is designed to develop the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. There will also be an emphasis on culture through the in-class use of audio-visual material.
 
Elementary Persian II
Tuesday and Thursday
5:00 – 7:30 pm
5 weeks with a short break, (30 October to 15 November then 27 November - 6 December)

Completion of Elementary Persian I or a basic understanding of Persian required.
