August Majlis: Palestinian Women and Popular Resistance

Palestinian Women and Popular Resistance: Perceptions, Attitudes and Strategies

Palestinian women have a long history of involvement in national resistance, having sustained the movement throughout some of its most crucial phases (the First Intifada, in particular). However, in the period since the 1993-95 Oslo peace accords, direct collective Palestinian popular resistance has decreased, especially among women. In this seminar, Dr Kayali will discuss factors that explain women’s retreat from overt collective activism in the West Bank by exploring the ways that Palestinian women perceive, negotiate, and enact resistance.

Held in person at the CAIS Lecture Theatre and online via Zoom.
