Kuwait and the Commonwealth of Independent States: The current situation and prospects for the future

In this lecture, Professor Selim will review and account for the relations between Kuwait and the twelve countries comprising the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). He will assess the main dilemmas of these relations and suggest  modalities for their further development. To achieve these objectives he will analyse Kuwait-CIS relations within analytical frameworks used to account for relations between two unequal parties.

Mohammad El-Sayed Selim, is Professor of Political Science at Cairo University and Kuwait University. He has a PhD in Political Science from Carleton University, 1979.  His publications include: The Cultural Dimensions of the Euro- Mediterranean Partnership, (Cairo: Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, Strategic Papers series no. 109, 2001); The Extra-Regional Environment of Egyptian-Iranian Relations: Opportunities and Risks, (Cairo: Center for Asian Studies of Cairo University, Asian Monographs series no. 46, October 2002); ‘Multi-lateralism, Globalization, and the Muslim World: Prospects for the future’, in Syed Norurlzaman bin Syed Kamarulazman, and Sharifah Alatas, (eds.) This lecture will be followed by a panel discussion on the subject. The panel will be composed of Dr Kirill Nourzhanov, CAIS Lecturer and Deputy Director, Dr Madeleine  Reeves, The University of Manchester and currently a CAIS Visiting Fellow and CAIS PhD scholar, Mr Shuhrat Baratov.
