In recent months, long-term tensions between Russia and Ukraine have reached a boiling point. The Russian military build-up near the Ukrainian border increased fears about a major armed conflict in the centre of Europe, which has now eventuated.

Dr Kirill Nourzhanov and Associate Professor Matthew Sussex discuss the strategic and tactical objectives of the Kremlin's conduct in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and how international actors might respond to them.
