Synopsis:
The forty-four year Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories has had a devastating impact on Palestinian human rights – both in terms of Civil and Political Rights and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. In this timely talk, Dr Mason will explore the human rights situation facing Palestinians, and how this must be addressed in order to achieve a just and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
Dr Victoria Mason holds a joint position between the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies and the School of Politics and International Relations at the ANU. Dr Mason’s research focuses on human rights in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; conflict resolution in the Middle East (particularly Israel-Palestine and Iraq) and issues concerning refugees and minorities in the region. Dr Mason is an associate member of the Richardson Institute for Peace and Conflict Research in the UK and is involved with the International State Crime Initiative run by Kings College London, Harvard and Hull Universities.
