Exiled Political Activism of Turkmen Diasporas Abroad 2020-2024: Protest Mobilisation in Türkiye and the US

This proposal of the doctoral dissertation examines
the exiled political activism of Turkmen diasporas
in Türkiye and the US fr om 2020 to 2024. Under
the regimes of Saparmurat Niyazov (1991–2006),
Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov (2006–2022),
and Serdar Berdymukhammedov (2022–present),
the Turkmen government has suppressed dissent
and opposition, resulting in non-existent public
engagement within Turkmenistan and limited academic
research on the subject. However, since 2020, Turkmen
diasporas abroad have increasingly engaged in
demonstrations against domestic policies, marking a
novel phenomenon i n Turkmen political activism. Thus,
this study proposes primary research and fieldwork to
analyse exiled political activism of Turkmen diasporas
abroad.
