The Centre for Arab & Islamic Studies (CAIS) at the Australian National University in Canberra is delighted to announce the launch of its Turkish Studies Network in Australia/New Zealand. The network marks the rising prominence of Australia/NZ as a locus for scholars and research on Turkey understood in its most broad, plural and transregional sense. The network is an academic venue connecting scholars from diverse disciplinary backgrounds.
Eschewing narrow and exclusivist national, statist and geographic framings, the network will span eras and transnational geographies including the modern Turkish state, the Ottoman Empire, the Turkic World and a breadth of research fields, from intellectual history, anthropology, literature, international relations and political science to Islamic Studies, Kurdish Studies, minorities, diaspora and migration.
The launch features two panels with speakers from Australia, Turkey and the United States, along with an HDR discussion and a planning session. For the full schedule, download the attached flyer (link at bottom of this page).
Come and join the network and take part in the closing planning session (3–4pm) to help shape its goals and thematic clusters.
HDR students and early career researchers are especially welcome. Membership is free: Please join https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeGriGNjPzA6PxLyriqsgOdHqjpmu4sxn4As1EMwNKzuXqHwA/viewform.
